Exhibition Introduction

The Cheongju Museum of Art presents Architecture Becomes Art, a special exhibition that explores the intersection of two seemingly distinct disciplines—architecture and art. Though different in form and function, the two fields have long influenced one another. This exhibition invites viewers to experience a convergence of artistic sensibilities that transcend disciplinary boundaries, offering new perspectives and sensory experiences.

Architecture and art have historically maintained a close relationship, both drawing from a wide range of materials and technologies. Through processes that incorporate architectural form, spatial composition, and materiality into their work, artists expand the expressive potential of both fields. Architecture, inherently connected to human life, communicates with disciplines such as science, the humanities, and engineering—and at times, becomes an art form in itself. This exhibition focuses on the dynamic points of contact between contemporary architecture and art, revealing how such interplay fosters new interpretations and amplifies their expressive power.

The exhibition features works by 15 architects and visual artists, each of whom has created pieces through thoughtful reflection on space. Their works embody the expansive nature of contemporary art, engaging the viewer in a psychological and sensory dialogue shaped by the relationship between people and place. By incorporating architectural elements into the exhibition space and harmonizing them with sculptural and visual works, the show offers both visual delight and subtle emotional resonance.

Today’s architecture integrates structure, space, material, and environment to form a new framework—one that evolves into a multidimensional space of convergence. Within the museum setting, the interplay of light, color, and fluid visual imagery awakens the viewer’s latent senses and draws them into an immersive world beyond the familiar.
